Purpose: kick-off meeting for the Ground Array development plan for the GRAND prototype.

Summary: the Ground Array will be a key element of the GRAND-protoype. It will allow to cross-check the nature of EAS candidates selected with the radio array, and therefore perform a quantitiative evalmuation of the background rejection performances of the EAS radiodetection technique.

The Ground Array should be composed of 21 0.5m^2 scintillators, deployed along the 21CMA North-South baseline. Prototypes of the scintillators and PMTs are being developped in collaboration with the ASgamma collaboration working for the detector upgrade.It is foreseen that 9 prototype scintiollators provided by Tibet University will be installed on site in Summer 2014. This implies that Tibet Uni joins the TREND collaboration.

Base choice for DAQ is to use TREND optical system + computers (same as present 3-scintillator array). Alternatives allowing precise amplitude determination -and therefore energy measurement- will be studied.

Simulations are on-going to define the layout giving optimal EAS detection efficiency. This is challenging at energies beyond 10^17eV, where CPU needs exceed our possibilities for a standard CORSIKA unthinned shower. A (faster) CONEX-3D simulation will be investigated by Zhaoyang to begin with. If unsuccesfull, CORSIKA + thinning is the prefered alternative, but unthinning of the simulation outputs requires some additionnalk work.
