Reviewing the CSP task list before you start your first shift

Learning how to use the EVO connection to the outside world during your shifts

  • The rules of using EVO connection:
    • switch on the video for CMSROC@Beijing at startup of your shift, and switch off the video for CMSROC@Beijing at the end of your shift.
    • This is REALLY important, since CERN have other remote shifters around the world, however have only 1 quarter of the big MCU screen reserved for CSP shifts, so if we keep the video of ROC@Beijing open, it will block the MCU screen access to other or making their picture smaller on the MCU.

  • How to switch on or off the video for CMSROC@Beijing:
    • The only thing you need to do is to click the video mode in EVO (a small camera images in EVO), which is located in the right big screen of the shift room on the wall, to switch on or off the video for CMSROC@Beijing.

Fast Procedure for daily computing shift

  • switch on the video for CMSROC@Beijing at startup of your shift in order to open the connection to the outside world
  • at start of shift post short message in the Shift Reports(sub-elog of the CMS Elog) to say you began your shift (you may want to subscribe)
  • through your shift keep an AIM client open for account FacOpsShifter. See instructions
  • go through the plan of the dayand the shift summary of last shifter
  • go through the checklist about once every 2~3 hours (3 times in your shift)
  • write the check results into corresponding parts on the CMS Elog
  • post a shift summary in the Shift Reports (sub-elog of the CMS Elog) at the end of your shift, disconnect from AIM and be sure that you logged out from all of the sub logbooks from the ELOG.
  • switch off the video for CMSROC@Beijing at the end of your shift in order to close the connection to the outside world
